Student Blogger Snapshot: Big Data, Technology, and Engineering Top Ten

Always dreamed of working at Snapchat or Google? Now’s your chance! Many of your favorite tech companies will be at the SOCH (59 Shepard Street) this Friday from 3-5pm for the Big Data, Technology, & Engineering Fair. While there are 60+ organizations set to participate, here are the top ten organizations I’m looking forward to seeing!

Snapchat
What it is: A photo messaging application for smartphones.
Fun fact: Over 350 million photos are shared via Snapchat daily.

Rap Genius
What it is: A website dedicated to explaining the meaning of rap lyrics.
Fun fact: Although it is one of the fastest growing websites on the internet, Rap Genius only has 6 people currently on its tech team.

Square
What it is: A mobile payments start-up.
Fun fact: In the past, Business Insider compared Square CEO Jack Dorsey with Steve Jobs for his “entrepreneurial vision and charisma.”

Knewton
What it is: A service that helps publishers, schools, and other organizations provide continuously personalized educational content to their students.
Fun fact: Knewton currently powers courses in a variety of subjects, including reading, math, chemistry, biology, physics, anatomy and physiology, accounting, and finance.

Kryuus
What it is: A company that uses big data and analytics to drive insights that help health care and life sciences organizations maximize the value of their physician networks.
Fun fact: Kryuus recently partnered with athenahealth, Inc. — another big data company that will be at the fair — as part of their “More Disruption Please" program.

Jana
What it is: A Boston-based start-up that connects companies to the developing world through their cutting-edge platform. 
Fun fact: The company’s name comes from Jana, the Sanskrit word for “people.”

Palantir
What it is: A software company that builds and sells data fusion platforms and applications for solving large, complex data problems.
Fun fact: Palantir chairman and cofounder Peter Thiel also cofounded PayPal and later Elon Musk.

MoPub
What it is: A one-stop ad serving platform designed for mobile application publishers to manage their ad inventory on iOS and Android.
Fun fact: MoPub was founded by former AdMob and Google team members and is backed by Accel Partners, Harrison Metal Capital, and Jafco Ventures.

Electronic Arts (EA)
What it is: An American developer, marketer, publisher and distributor of video games.
Fun fact: Electronic Arts is the world’s third-largest gaming company by revenue after Nintendo and Activision Blizzard.

Box
What it is: An online file sharing and Cloud content management service for enterprise companies. 
Fun fact: Over 180,000 companies use Box.
